Independent Living Alternatives (ILA) is a social enterprise established in 1989 that enables disabled people to live independently. Many disabled people want self-control over their own lives and hire personal assistants to support this. ILA provides innovative and flexible alternatives to institutional and domiciliary “care” provision through a flexible range of personal assistance services informed by disabled people mainly but not exclusively in and around London. "Disabled people have an inalienable right to independent living" We believe that everyone has a right to live independently and to have control over their own life. Do you want to work in an environment where every day you are empowering a disabled person to do what they want to do? Not following a care plan which takes power and control away from the disabled person - making them voiceless or rushing from client to client between 30 minutes calls with no time to really get to know someone!

Our client is a 35 year old man who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy since the age of 2 months. He is looking for a PA to support him between Monday – Friday (9am-5pm). The PA User is independently mobile via a powered wheelchair which he operates via a head switch and is very tech savvy. As his independence relies on technology, it is very important that the person who supports him is technically astute. The PA User uses a Smartbox PC communication aid and is able to communicate via his MDT (Magic Drive technology). He uses his hydro pool three times per week and attends physio weekly, thus the support worker must enjoy swimming and learning new skills, like physio. Assistance with personal hygiene, feeding and dressing/undressing will also be required.

We believe that everyone should be in control of when they get up and go to bed; what they eat; where they go; when they go out and when they come home; every decision and choice is up to the disabled person-needing assistance does not mean losing control and independence. £11.05+ per hour - you choose the jobs you want and are assigned regular work on a regular basis with the same person or people. Pension, holiday and overtime (if you want it) No experience needed as all training is provided Remark - The successful candidate must be prepared to travel abroad (Spain) with the PA User to the family residence and must be tech savvy.
