Overview

The Camden Climate Fund can provide up to 50% of costs to reduce the carbon used in our homes, businesses, and community spaces. Measures can include insulation (to reduce heat loss), heat pumps (to provide renewable heat), solar photovoltaic panels (to provide electricity) and solar thermal systems (to provide hot water). The Fund also offers grants to small groups of residents and community groups to kickstart climate action and help deliver local carbon-saving projects.

The Camden Climate Fund is financed by Camden’s carbon offset payments, which are collected through the planning system when new developments in Camden fall short of the Mayor of London’s carbon targets. More information on carbon offset payments is provided on the GLA website.

Funding is allocated on a first come, first serve basis, therefore we recommend that you apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Apply for a Household Energy Efficiency Grant

It is expected that by 2030 emissions associated with heating and hot water from a gas boiler will account for 85% of a household’s emissions. Reducing carbon emissions from heating our homes and buildings is the biggest challenge Camden faces in its journey to net zero.

Household carbon emissions can be significantly reduced by improving the building fabric of homes and switching to low carbon heat technologies. The Camden Climate Fund provides funding of up to £5,000 (up to 50% of costs) to support households and landlords install energy efficiency measures to help reduce heating demand, lower bills and cut associated carbon emissions.

Please note, you cannot apply for a Camden Climate Fund grant retrospectively, for works that have already been installed. Read the Camden Climate Fund: Household – Terms and Conditions before applying. Please ensure you have also completed the Camden Climate Fund: Household Application Checklist before applying

For those on lower incomes who wish to make energy efficiency improvements to their homes such as energy efficient heating or insulation you may be eligible for the Warmer Cheaper Greener programme. Alternatively, contact the Green Camden Helpline to find out about additional support which may be available to you.

Apply for a Business Grant

Local businesses and institutions account for 66% of Camden’s carbon emissions, therefore it is important they take the lead in reducing their energy consumption.  The Camden Climate Fund supports small to medium business and third sector organisations across the borough cut their carbon emissions and lower fuel bills.

Up to £10,000 is available towards the installation costs of renewable technologies and/or energy efficiency improvements. Such measures include solar panels, lighting and lower carbon heating upgrades. Successful applicants are required to match-fund 50% of costs, plus any additional over the maximum allowance.

For your business application to be considered, you must be a member of the Camden Climate Change Alliance. Basic membership is free. Please note, you cannot apply for a Camden Climate Fund grant retrospectively, for works that have already been installed. Please read the Terms and Conditions before applying.

Achieving a net zero carbon Camden by 2030 will require everyone living and working in Camden to play their part. To help enable communities to kickstart local climate action, the Camden Climate Fund is offering up to £5,000 for projects that can demonstrate carbon savings and community benefit. Examples of projects may include a tree planting scheme or a local communications campaign focused on behavioural change. Camden encourages local communities to be creative in their applications and will consider a breadth of projects providing a carbon saving can be demonstrated.

Applicants are not required to match-fund and the application must be made on behalf of a group of 4 or more residents. If you would like inspiration, please read the Climate Action Plan to learn about existing projects and opportunities for action across the vision areas for a net-zero Camden.
